Ahh, Baked Eggs. This never gets tired. Great for a starter or as a tasty snack. Couple with crispy toast for extra yum!
Ingredients:
- 4 Cornish eggs
- 1/4 cup (60 ml) heavy cream or milk
- 1/4 cup (30g) grated cheese (such as Gruyère, cheddar, or Parmesan)
- 1 tablespoon butter
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Fresh herbs like parsley, chives, or thyme, finely chopped
- Optional: chopped ham, cooked bacon, sautéed spinach, or mushrooms for extra flavor
Instructions:
- Preheat the oven:
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Prepare the ramekins:
- Lightly butter four small ramekins or oven-safe dishes.
- Assemble the baked eggs:
- Crack one egg into each ramekin.
- Pour 1 tablespoon of cream or milk over each egg.
- Sprinkle a little salt and pepper on top.
- Add any additional ingredients like chopped ham, bacon, or sautéed vegetables around the egg.
- Sprinkle the grated cheese on top of each egg.
- Bake the eggs:
- Place the ramekins in a baking dish. Pour hot water into the baking dish until it reaches halfway up the sides of the ramekins. This water bath ensures even cooking.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, or until the egg whites are set and the yolks are still slightly runny. If you prefer firmer yolks, bake for an additional 2-3 minutes.
- Serve:
- Remove the ramekins from the oven and carefully take them out of the water bath.
- Let them cool for a minute or two.
- Garnish with fresh herbs and a sprinkle of extra cheese if desired.
