Baked Eggs Recipe

Ahh, Baked Eggs. This never gets tired. Great for a starter or as a tasty snack. Couple with crispy toast for extra yum!

Ingredients:

  • 4 Cornish eggs
  • 1/4 cup (60 ml) heavy cream or milk
  • 1/4 cup (30g) grated cheese (such as Gruyère, cheddar, or Parmesan)
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh herbs like parsley, chives, or thyme, finely chopped
  • Optional: chopped ham, cooked bacon, sautéed spinach, or mushrooms for extra flavor

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven:
    • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Prepare the ramekins:
    • Lightly butter four small ramekins or oven-safe dishes.
  3. Assemble the baked eggs:
    • Crack one egg into each ramekin.
    • Pour 1 tablespoon of cream or milk over each egg.
    • Sprinkle a little salt and pepper on top.
    • Add any additional ingredients like chopped ham, bacon, or sautéed vegetables around the egg.
    • Sprinkle the grated cheese on top of each egg.
  4. Bake the eggs:
    • Place the ramekins in a baking dish. Pour hot water into the baking dish until it reaches halfway up the sides of the ramekins. This water bath ensures even cooking.
    • Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, or until the egg whites are set and the yolks are still slightly runny. If you prefer firmer yolks, bake for an additional 2-3 minutes.
  5. Serve:
    • Remove the ramekins from the oven and carefully take them out of the water bath.
    • Let them cool for a minute or two.
    • Garnish with fresh herbs and a sprinkle of extra cheese if desired.

Tips:

  • Serving Suggestions: Baked eggs are delicious served with toasted bread or a fresh salad.
  • Customize: Feel free to experiment with different cheeses, vegetables, and meats to create your perfect baked eggs.

Enjoy your Cornish baked eggs!
